A Little Bit of Loveliness - Crossbasket Castle Save the Date
Crossbasket Castle - Save the Date

As a wedding stationer, I get asked this question all the time:

"Do we really need Save the Dates?"

With digital invites, group chats, and social media announcements, some couples wonder if a beautifully designed piece of stationery is still necessary.

Short answer: Yes… and no. (Helpful, right?)

The Case Against Save the Dates

Some couples see Save the Dates as an unnecessary expense. With wedding costs rising, why spend money on something that isn’t even the actual invitation? And in our age of instant communication, your wedding date might already be floating around WhatsApp or Instagram.

There’s also the question of sustainability. For eco-conscious couples, digital announcements can feel like the responsible choice - less paper waste, less clutter. A quick email is easy, efficient, and free.

Why Save the Dates Still Matter

Before we toss Save the Dates into the bin of outdated traditions (next to garter tosses and questionable cake smash photos), let’s remember their true purpose: they set the tone for your wedding.

Your Save the Date is the very first glimpse guests get of your wedding aesthetic. It’s like the trailer before the movie - a teaser of the elegance, fun, or drama to come.

And let’s be honest: people are busy. A physical Save the Date becomes a tangible reminder on the fridge or pinboard, not buried in the endless scroll of notifications. Plus, they’re fun - who doesn’t love beautiful mail that isn’t a bill?

DIY or Digital? No Problem

We get it - weddings have budgets, and sometimes DIY feels like the best choice. We’re not upset if you make your own Save the Dates!

One of the latest trends? Video-style Save the Dates inspired by TikTok - short, fun videos with music, animation, and personal touches. They’re perfect for couples who want an interactive, shareable announcement.

That said, if you want help refining your design, printing on luxury paper, or adding that extra bit of polish, we’re here. The goal is to make your stationery as special as your day - whether you DIY it or leave it to us.

The Verdict

So, are Save the Dates dead? Not quite. They may be evolving - hello, QR codes and digital versions - but they still have a special place, especially if you want to make a lasting impression.

A beautifully designed Save the Date adds anticipation and magic to your wedding journey. Whether you go traditional, digital, or somewhere in between, make it special - because your love story deserves it.
